This class will focus on the details of dressing a loom. Using a 15” table loom, students will complete all steps necessary to weave using a multi-harness/shaft loom. This includes; winding a warp, dressing the loom using a front to back method, sleying the reed, threading heddles, securing the warp to the loom, winding on the warp, and weaving. Use one of our looms or bring your own table loom with a minimum of four shafts.

PROJECT: While weaving a 12 x 30” piece of cotton fabric, students will learn how to:

  • wind the warp using 4/8 cotton in neutrals either a warping board or warping mill

  • dress the loom using a front to back method

  • wind on the warp, how to get consistent tension and why that is one of the most important aspects of weaving

  • warp will be threaded in a straight draw pattern, giving students the option to weave both plain weave and various twill patterns

  • weaving techniques for consistency

  • on hand will be a variety of weft fibres to customize your cloth
