January 22 - Willow Tray
January 22 - Willow Tray
Instructor: Freyja $85
5:30 - 9:30pm
This 4 hour class will guide you through making a delicate willow tray. This is the perfect project for the short slender willows found in abundance in Alberta's ditches.
INSTRUCTOR: Freyja Ulveland
PROJECT: Using locally harvested willow, students will weave a round tray approximately 14” wide. We will begin with a 3 x 3 slath base, practicing hidden staggered joins for strength and symmetry. Once we have completed the inner circle we will discuss different techniques to soften and bend willow without causing kinks. We will then finish our tray with a beautiful trac border.
DISCUSSION: Location and varieties of willow, as well as harvesting, storing and preparing.
INCLUDED: All materials included. Instructor will provide tools, but if you have a favourite knife or pruning shears bring them along.
PREREQUISITE: None! This is a beginner class, no experience necessary.
CANCELLATION POLICY: Due to very small class sizes, we are unable to offer refunds on workshops. If for any reason you are unable to attend, you can send someone in your place.
