This class will be hosted by Murriel Mapa of Naked & Frayed, where she’ll walk you through one of her own “Embroidmonton” designs. That’s right, you’ll be able to stitch your very own Embroidmonton piece (an Edmonton-inspired embroidery)!

This is a beginner-friendly class - so if you’ve never embroidered before, that’s okay! You will learn all of the stitches you’ll need to complete the piece, with hands-on instructions and a chance to ask any questions you have. The goal of this class will be to make sure you’re comfortable with all of the stitches so you can go home confidently to complete the rest! Once you’ve learned these basic stitches of embroidery, this will help you for any of your future embroidery projects!

INSTRUCTOR: Murriel of Naked & Frayed, $150

November 23, 1-5pm

PROJECT: With DIY Embroidery kits provided, students will be able to learn the basic stitches needed to complete their embroidery pieces. The kits will come with a booklet with detailed instructions that they’ll be able to refer to after class, as well as the embroidery needle, floss, printed fabric, and 6-inch hoop. We will discuss every step of completing and embroidery piece, from inserting fabric into the hoop, threading your needle with floss, as well as closing your hoop when you’re finished.

DISCUSSION: Different ways of transferring your designs onto fabric and tips for making your own designs. The basic types of stitching techniques and how you can decide the thickness of your stitches based on your floss. Other embroidery vocabulary will also be discussed.

INCLUDED: All materials included.

PREREQUISITE: None!  This is a beginner class, no experience necessary. However, this will stretch your hands and brain's capacity if this is your first encounter. Embroidery is meditative and soothing once the techniques become rote, but some effort is required to achieve that. Many breaks will be offered for time to absorb.

CANCELLATION POLICY: Due to very small class sizes, we are unable to offer refunds on workshops. If for any reason you are unable to attend, you can send someone in your place. Any classes cancelled by us due to low registration or health mandates will have the option for a refund or transfer to future date.

Please arrive 5-10 minutes before class start time. Class end time may vary.
