Familiarize yourself with the magic of double width weaving! Double your looms’ width capability by weaving two layers at once. With a four shaft loom you can select two shafts for the top layer and the other two shafts for the bottom layer. In this workshop, each blanket is 25 inches on the loom, and when taken off the loom will unfold to be 50 inches.
This class offers the choice of one of four distinct designs.
The Robyn Blanket - an assymetrical striped design in warm fall colours, and a classic camp blanket in plaid.
The Camp Blanket - a plaid in classic camp gear colours; navy, red, green, black and yellow.
The Bauhaus Blanket - In yellow, grey and cream. This design was inspired by the iconic weavers of the Bauhaus.
The Grid Blanket - A timeless grid design in light and dark grey.
All materials included. The loom will be dressed and ready for weaving.
INSTRUCTOR: Fern
PROJECT: Weave a wool plain weave blanket approximately 50 x 68” (before washing) using the double width technique. Students will learn:
to plan weaving drafts for four shaft double width
to plan a project for double width
to adjust sett for double width
to twist fringes and fix skips
to wet finish a blanket to increase it’s softness and drape
to calculate shrinkage for future projects of the same structure and fibre
PREREQUISITE: This class is suitable for both beginner and intermediate weavers. The Bauhaus design can be simplified to accommodate new weavers.
NOTE: Some homework is required.
