Take your needle felting to the next level, with the use of armature wire to build longer, finer, and more complex forms. Needle-felting uses barbed triangular needles to interlock the fibres in wool roving to create solid forms. Because the needles are both very sharp and brittle, we recommend this workshop for folks ages 14 and up. Some needle felting experience is recommended.

All necessary materials are included in the course fee:

- felting block, one medium and one fine felting needle, undyed wool (for making your core), dyed wool (for adding surface colour), chenille wire for armature

If you have it, bring it:

- small scissors, awl, hand carders or a pair of wire pet brushes

PROJECT: NEEDLE FELTED FOX

DISCUSSION: Students will continue their exploration of wool roving as a craft and art medium using a barbed needle as a sculpting tool. By making a needle-felted fox in this class, you will build upon your basic skills by introducing armatures to your work and more options for surface

embellishment. This is an intermediate level course; we will quickly review the basics, but Intro To Needle Felting (or, Needle-Felted Owl) or prior needle-felting experience will be very handy.

- learn how to build an armature using chenille wire

- learn how to shape a form using raw wool over the armature

- learn how to add solid and blended colours to your form, using dyed rovings

- learn to add detail, embellishment, and texture

PREREQUISITE: Introductory Needle Felting (at Fern’s, or elsewhere). You should be relatively comfortable with the wool and the felting needles. If in doubt, shoot us an email! We’re happy to help assess.

Any classes cancelled by us due to low registration or health mandates will have the option for a refund or transfer to a future date.
